The quality of the material discussed is very professional and legitimate. It’s not what I was expecting from a dummies book at all.

    If readers of this review are already familiar with CBT but not, necessarily a 'practitioner' then I believe that they, and those new to the subject would find this book very useful.

    It is set out in clear, concise 'pieces' so that you can build your learning, understanding and implementation as you go. I have reviewed a number of other 'for Dummy's' books and I believe this to be the best, so far!

    A VERY useful book and one I can recommend.

    I love that it keeps it simple. It also gives tips and hints that add depth to the meat of the chapter. This book covers many many issues that people deal with, some of which may not apply to you, but that's okay! Life is always changing and, while it may not apply to you today, it very well could many tomorrows from today. This is a book that should be kept in the home and re-read over and over again as a reminder of the proper way to view our feelings and thoughts. It has helped me tremendously with rumination and negativity. Without spilling my guts in this review, let's just say that we all have periods in our life in which rethinking our initial reaction would be to our best benefit. I loved the section where it spoke about up to at least nine different ways to interpret the same situation!!!! I have to admit that its true. Our feelings and beliefs shape the way we interpret life. I highly recommend everyone make use of this book for improving on life's journey.

    I'm fairly new to the subject of CBT, having recently required this myself (as a patient, not a practitioner), and this book is a really good guide to how it works and the key parts of therapy that can be used. As Dummies books normally are, it's well laid-out and easy to read, and manages to start with the basics without being patronising. Useful.

From that retrospect I found that the book clearly defined CBT and the techniques involved and I would feel confident in explaining what it is and how it works to others. From a professional development point of view this book has been great.
